Edit a design by describing the change — or point at an element and say it

Refine is the bar above the canvas: “Describe a change…”. It reads your design, applies the change you describe and leaves the rest untouched. Ask for a colour, a rewrite, a new page, a tighter layout, a different picture, or three things at once.
Point and say makes it precise. Select an element first and the bar switches to “Editing: Headline” (or whatever you picked). The change then applies to that element and only that element — “make this shorter”, “put my logo here”, “turn this into a badge”. Changed elements flash so you can see exactly what moved.
How to do it
Describe the change for the whole design
Type into the bar above the canvas and click Refine. Examples: “make it feel more premium”, “swap the photo for a night shot of the storefront”, “add a page with the menu”. The result streams in; the pill shows progress.
Or select an element and talk to it
Click an element on the canvas (⇧-click to pick several). The bar shows an “Editing: …” chip with the element’s name. Now the change is scoped: “make this gold”, “rewrite this in two words”, “align this to the right edge”. Click the × on the chip, or click empty canvas, to go back to whole-design edits.
Attach a picture when the change needs one
Use “Add photo/logo” to attach a file, then refine: “use this logo top-left” or “replace the hero photo with this”. The attachment travels with your request.
Check what changed
Elements that were touched flash briefly. If you don’t like it, ⌘Z restores the previous state in one step — AI edits are ordinary history entries.
Keep going
Refine is conversational: each request builds on the current design. Small, specific requests give the most predictable results; big rewrites are better as a new generation.
Tips
- Name the target when you can’t click it: “the small grey caption under the price”.
- Combine with direct editing — drag, resize and retype yourself for the quick things; use Refine for the things that take judgement.
- Multi-page designs: say the page (“on page 2, …”) or select an element on that page first.
- Version history keeps every refine, so you can go back days later, not just with undo.
Frequently asked questions
- Will Refine change things I didn’t mention?
- It is built not to. Whole-design refines patch only the elements needed for the request; point-and-say refines are limited to the selected elements. If a request is ambiguous it may adjust neighbours to keep the layout sound, and undo is one step.
- Can I edit text directly instead?
- Yes — double-click any text to type. Refine is for changes that need rewriting, restyling or layout judgement rather than a quick correction.
- Does Refine work with my brand kit?
- Yes. With “Use my brand” on, colours and fonts introduced by a refine stay on brand; you can also say “use my brand colours” explicitly.
- What if it gets stuck?
- Long requests such as adding several pages take longer and show progress. If nothing arrives, the editor falls back and tells you; your design is never overwritten by a half-finished result.
