Restore an earlier version of a design

Undo covers the current session; version history covers everything before it. Studio records a version whenever the design is saved after a meaningful change — a generation, a refine, a recreate from picture, a resize, a restore, or plain editing — and labels each with what happened and when. Quick successive edits are folded together so the list stays readable, and the last sixty versions are kept.
Restoring is safe: the current state is saved as a version first, and the restore is a normal history step, so ⌘Z brings you back.
How to do it
Open Version history
Click the design title at the top left (the document pill) and choose “Version history”. The panel opens on the right, grouped by day, newest first, each entry labelled — Generated, Refined, Recreated from image, Resized, Restored, or Edited.
Preview a version
Click an entry to see a preview of its first page and the number of elements. Nothing changes on the canvas until you restore.
Restore
Click “Restore this version”. The design on the canvas is replaced by that version, the previous state is kept as its own version, and the restore is one undo step.
Carry on
Close the panel and keep editing. The restored state becomes the base for new versions.
Tips
- Refine boldly: every AI edit is a version, so trying a direction costs nothing.
- Versions are per design and per account; a shared editable link copy has its own history.
- If you need a state from more than sixty versions ago, duplicate the design at milestones.
Frequently asked questions
- How often is a version saved?
- On every save after a meaningful change. Plain edits within ten minutes of each other are merged into one version; AI actions always get their own.
- Does restoring delete newer versions?
- No. Newer versions stay in the list, and the state you restored from is saved as a version too, so nothing is lost.
- How long are versions kept?
- The most recent sixty versions of each design are kept; older ones are pruned.
